HOW TO USE

Supplier CSV → Shopify — How to use

Learn how to map a supplier CSV into a Shopify-ready product file, including prices, costs, variants, images, inventory, review, and downloads.

WHO IT IS FOR

For sellers who receive product spreadsheets from suppliers.

Use it when your supplier gives you a CSV with its own column names, prices, SKUs, styles, colors, sizes, stock, and image links, but you need a controlled Shopify-ready product CSV without manually rebuilding every column.

What problem does it solve?

Supplier files rarely match Shopify’s product schema. The tool helps you map supplier columns, explicitly define product and variant relationships, preserve cost versus selling price, normalize images, and run the generated file through the same Merchant CSV Doctor validation before download.

Before you start

  • Prepare a UTF-8, comma-delimited CSV with unique, nonblank headers.
  • The current limit is 15 MiB per file.
  • Keep supplier field names as they are; the mapping step is designed to interpret them.
  • Know whether each row is a separate product or rows belong to variants of one product.

STEP BY STEP

How to use Supplier CSV → Shopify

  1. Upload the supplier CSV

Drag the file into the upload area or choose it from your device. The file stays in your browser.

  2. Review every suggested mapping

HIGH suggestions may be preselected. MEDIUM and LOW suggestions require confirmation or a manual choice. Supplier headers stay visible so you can compare the source column with the Shopify destination.

  3. Protect cost and selling price

Wholesale Price, Supplier Price, Purchase Price, Unit Cost, or Cost map to Cost per item. Retail Price, Selling Price, Sale Price, or Shop Price map to Price. A generic Price column is not silently treated as Shopify Price; it requires confirmation.

  4. Choose the product structure explicitly

Choose “Each row is a separate product” only when every source row is its own product. Choose “Group rows into product variants” when multiple rows represent one product with options such as Color and Size. The tool does not guess from repeated titles.

  5. Configure variants when needed

Choose a stable grouping column such as Style ID, Parent SKU, Model, or Product Code, then choose up to three option columns. Example: Grouping = Style ID, Option 1 = Color, Option 2 = Size.

  6. Map images deliberately

You can map up to 10 source image columns to Product image URL. Multiple image columns are allowed to share that target. Exact duplicate URLs within one product are deduplicated in first-seen order and receive continuous image positions.

  7. Decide how to handle inventory

If you do not know that the store uses exactly one inventory location, keep “No / Not sure” and omit Inventory quantity. Multi-location inventory should be handled with Shopify’s Inventory CSV after product import.

  8. Review defaults before generating

The visible defaults are Status = draft, Published = FALSE, Requires shipping = TRUE, Charge tax = TRUE, and Fulfillment service = manual. Change them only when you understand the effect.

  9. Generate, review, and resolve blockers

The review shows Products, Variants, Output rows, Critical, Warnings, Info, and Readiness. Duplicate variant combinations, blank option values, unsafe grouping, and other structural blockers must be fixed before download.

  10. Download both outputs

Download shopify-products-from-supplier.csv for Shopify and supplier-to-shopify-mapping-report.csv as the audit trail of how source fields were interpreted.

Mapping confidence — what it means

LevelMeaningWhat you should do
HIGHStrong, deterministic match.Usually preselected; still review it.
MEDIUMPlausible but not safe to assume.Confirm the target manually.
LOWNo safe automatic interpretation.Choose a target only if you know the source meaning.

Five practical examples

01

Simple products

One row per product. Map title, SKU, cost, selling price, vendor, description, and image.

02

Color + Size variants

Group by Style ID, then choose Color and Size as option columns.

03

Price safety

Wholesale Price stays cost; Retail Price becomes selling price; generic Price waits for confirmation.

04

Image deduplication

Repeated image URLs across variants are emitted once per product, with continuous image positions.

05

Duplicate variant blocker

Two rows with the same option combination, such as Black / M, are blocked until the source or mapping is corrected.

What the tool will not guess for you

  • It will not infer that repeated titles belong to one product.
  • It will not silently turn a generic Price column into Shopify selling price.
  • It does not convert currencies or weight units.
  • It does not fetch, upload, or rewrite image URLs.
  • It does not handle multi-location inventory through the product CSV.

Privacy and data handling

The supplier CSV is processed locally in your browser. SellerFrog analytics, when you explicitly allow them, count tool actions and aggregate results but do not send the CSV contents or filenames.

After download

Review the generated Shopify CSV and Shopify’s own import preview before committing a large catalog import. Start with a small sample when the catalog structure is new or important.
